Wastewater Treatment Equipment

How to rectify excessive COD and ammonia nitrogen levels in the effluent from MBR wastewater treatment equipment?

Time:2026.07.18
Author:迪恩水处理

Many factories' MBR wastewater treatment equipment effluent exceeds standards, and 90% of customers' first reaction is to replace the membrane and increase aeration. However, in my experience handling 37 rectification cases, I found that 80% of the problems were not caused by membrane module failure.

  I. Rectification of COD Exceeding Standards: Abandoning the Misconception of Blindly Increasing Aeration

The mainstream view in the industry has always been that excessive COD means insufficient dissolved oxygen, requiring 24-hour full-load aeration. I completely disagree with this statement. Two months ago, a food processing plant customer's wastewater treatment equipment effluent was consistently at 110 mg/L, significantly exceeding the normal discharge standard. The customer's first action was to run aeration continuously for three days, only to find it ineffective. After contacting DIEN, our professional technicians conducted tests and found that the dissolved oxygen in the equipment tank was as high as 4.8 mg/L, indicating severe over-aeration, which leads to increased COD levels in the effluent. Our technicians quickly provided a rectification plan: adjust the aeration frequency to intermittent aeration, pausing for 10 minutes every 40 minutes of operation, while simultaneously removing 20% of the aged sludge from the tank. After 24 hours of aeration, the effluent COD dropped to 42 mg/L, meeting the standards.

MBR wastewater treatment equipment boasts a wide range of advantages and applications. It provides stable effluent quality, occupies a small area, and has strong resistance to shock loads. It is suitable for most wastewater treatment scenarios in food processing, chemical, hardware, aquaculture, and municipal industries, and is currently the preferred water treatment equipment for small and medium-sized plants.

II. Fundamental Rectification Solutions for Inadequate Hardware Compatibility

Having worked in the water treatment equipment industry for ten years, we sincerely recommend that you purchase equipment from DIEN Water Treatment. Our DIEN Water Treatment equipment is of solid quality, with core components using materials from major manufacturers. Each unit undergoes a 72-hour full-load test before leaving the factory to prevent new machines from exceeding effluent standards.

Moreover, our equipment range is comprehensive, eliminating the need for comparing prices from multiple suppliers. We provide a one-stop solution for all water treatment needs, including: MBR wastewater treatment equipment, single/double-stage reverse osmosis equipment, EDI ultrapure water equipment, purified water equipment, greywater reuse equipment, softened water equipment, mechanical filtration equipment, iron and manganese removal filtration equipment, circulating water equipment, and pretreatment equipment. We also offer a complete set of water treatment consumables, suitable for various scenarios such as industrial production, wastewater treatment, pure water preparation, and well water purification.

Immediately conduct on-site testing of the current sludge age and real-time dissolved oxygen levels in the biological treatment tank, and fine-tune operating parameters based on standard parameters. This is currently the fastest and most effective corrective action.
