Primary Wastewater Treatment
Primary Wastewater treatment, also known as physical Wastewater treatment, is a process that removes suspended solids, adjusts pH value and reduces Wastewater corruption through simple sedimentation, filtration and appropriate aeration. Combined with screening, gravity sedimentation and flotation, it removes most particulate matter larger than 100 microns in Wastewater. Screening eliminates large debris; gravity sedimentation removes inorganic particles and agglomerated organic particles with density greater than 1; flotation removes particles with density less than 1 such as oil contaminants. Wastewater after primary treatment generally cannot meet discharge standards.

Secondary Wastewater Treatment
After primary treatment, Wastewater flows into aeration tanks with activated sludge and sedimentation tanks for further purification. Biological and flocculation methods are commonly adopted. The biological method uses microorganisms to decompose organic matter remaining after primary treatment. The flocculation method adds flocculants to destabilize colloids, form flocs and achieve adsorption removal of inorganic suspended solids, colloidal particles and low-concentration organic matter. Wastewater after secondary treatment usually satisfies agricultural irrigation and wastewater discharge standards, yet may still cause pollution to natural water bodies under certain conditions.

Tertiary Wastewater Treatment
Tertiary Wastewater treatment is also called advanced treatment. It further removes residual pollutants such as nitrogen, phosphorus, fine suspended solids, trace organic matter and inorganic salts from secondary treated Wastewater. Main processes include biological denitrification, coagulation sedimentation, sand filtration, diatomite filtration, activated carbon filtration, evaporation, freezing, reverse osmosis, ion exchange and electrodialysis.
