Wastewater from the food industry features high organic content, large amounts of suspended solids and fluctuating water quality. Improper treatment will easily lead to environmental penalties. Taking a large food processing plant as an example, this article deeply analyzes the configuration and operation key points of food factory Wastewater treatment equipment.

Operation Record & Selection Key Points of Food Factory Wastewater Treatment Equipment
Ⅰ. Project Background & Water Quality Analysis
This food factory mainly produces sauces and beverages, with a daily wastewater output of about 500 cubic meters. Test results show the raw water COD reaches as high as 1500 mg/L, and the BOD/COD ratio is 0.5, indicating good biodegradability with high suspended solids (SS) content.
Ⅱ. Equipment Configuration Scheme (Classic Process)
According to the water quality characteristics, we designed a three-stage treatment process: **Pretreatment + Biochemical Treatment + Advanced Treatment**.
1. Pretreatment Unit
• Bar Screen Tank: Intercept large solid residues, vegetable leaves and other coarse impurities.
• Equalization Tank: Balance water quality and water volume to avoid impact on the subsequent system caused by wastewater fluctuation.
• Air Flotation Machine: Remove oil grease and fine suspended solids.
2. Biochemical Treatment Unit (Core)
• Adopt A/O Process (Anoxic–Aerobic). Microorganisms are used to degrade organic matter, serving as the core link of food wastewater treatment with relatively low operating cost.
3. Advanced Treatment Unit
• Sedimentation Tank: Precipitate sludge produced by biochemical treatment.
• Disinfection Equipment: Adopt ultraviolet or sodium hypochlorite disinfection to ensure effluent meets discharge standards.
Ⅲ. Operation Effect & Cost Analysis
After half a year of stable operation, all effluent indicators are better than the **Class I standard of Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard (GB8978-1996)**:
• COD: Stable below 50 mg/L
• Ammonia Nitrogen: ≤5 mg/L
• Operating Cost: About 3.5 RMB per ton (including electricity, chemical agent and labor cost)
Ⅳ. Key Selection Suggestions
1. Corrosion Resistance: Food wastewater is usually acidic or alkaline. Equipment materials such as stainless steel and fiberglass must have excellent corrosion resistance.
2. Automation Level: PLC automatic control system is recommended to reduce manual attendance and realize 24-hour unattended operation.
3. Sludge Treatment: The system shall be equipped with reasonable sludge dewatering equipment such as plate-and-frame filter press to avoid secondary pollution.
The selection of food factory Wastewater treatment equipment must be closely combined with actual water quality and production capacity. If you are planning or renovating a Wastewater treatment system, it is recommended to conduct a detailed water quality test first before professional process design.DIEN Water Treatment Company provides free scheme design and cost estimation.
