Most people believe that adding more salt to a water softening equipment results in better water softening, which is completely wrong. Regeneration is the core working process of water softening equipment, and the brine concentration is key to activating the resin's adsorption capacity. Insufficient salt addition means the brine concentration doesn't meet the resin regeneration standard. Saturated resin cannot completely replace the adsorbed calcium and magnesium ions, rendering the softening function essentially useless. The most direct consequence is excessive water hardness; even with the equipment running 24 hours a day, it still cannot solve the scale and hard water problems, wasting water and electricity resources.
Excessive Salt Addition: Wasteful Resources and Accelerated Pipeline and Equipment Corrosion
Many customers, for convenience, fill the salt tank to the brine all at once, believing that adding more salt will extend the maintenance cycle. This is a counterproductive practice. Prolonged immersion in excessive high-concentration salt water will damage the resin's internal structure and significantly shorten its lifespan. Normal resin can last for 24 months; prolonged high-salt immersion will cause performance degradation after 12 months.
Industry Standard Salt Addition Method
There is no uniform salt addition value for water softening equipment. The core principle is "saturated ratio, replenish as needed," adapted to the equipment tonnage and water quality conditions. For a standard 1-ton commercial water softening unit, add 8-10 kg of salt to the salt tank each time, maintaining a salt layer height 5 cm above the water level. For large-tonnage industrial equipment, the salt ratio should be based on the resin filling volume, with 1 kg of industrial salt for every 10L of resin. Regularly check the salt tank water level to prevent dry salt caking and uneven brine dilution, ensuring stable regeneration and long-term operation of the equipment.
