How to choose a large-scale pure water equipment: Selecting the right model based on the brackish water quality in northern and southern Xinjiang.

Author:迪恩水处理

Xinjiang is a vast region with significant differences in water quality between northern and southern Xinjiang, as well as eastern Xinjiang. In most areas, groundwater and surface water are typically brackish, characterized by high salinity, excessive hardness, and fluctuating mineralization. Many companies, when purchasing large-scale pure water equipment, directly apply models commonly used in other parts of China, ignoring the specific water conditions in Xinjiang. This leads to frequent scaling of membrane elements, reduced water production, substandard effluent quality, and soaring maintenance costs. To select stable, durable, and cost-effective large-scale pure water equipment, the key is to choose a model specifically tailored to the characteristics of brackish water in northern and southern Xinjiang, adapting it to the unique local water environment.

First, it is essential to distinguish the core differences in water quality between northern and southern Xinjiang; this is the foundation for equipment selection. In northern Xinjiang, regions such as Ili, Altay, and Tacheng, the water sources are mostly snowmelt and shallow groundwater. The water quality is relatively mild and stable, with low suspended solids, low TDS values, and moderate salinity, with only slight hardness exceeding standards. This is considered mildly brackish water, and the overall water treatment difficulty is relatively low. In southern Xinjiang, Kashgar, Hotan, Aksu, and Bayingolin are located in the heart of a basin, characterized by sparse rainfall, high evaporation, and extremely high groundwater mineralization. TDS values generally reach 2000-8000 mg/L, far exceeding conventional water quality standards. The water contains severely excessive levels of calcium and magnesium ions, sulfates, and fluorides, making it heavily brackish water, which easily causes equipment blockage and membrane element fouling, rendering it unusable. Eastern Xinjiang's Hami and Turpan regions exhibit both high hardness and high mineralization, with significant seasonal fluctuations in water quality, requiring even higher equipment resilience.

Based on the differences in water quality between northern and southern Xinjiang, the core processes of large-scale pure water equipment need precise matching. For the slightly brackish water conditions in northern Xinjiang, single-stage reverse osmosis technology, combined with a conventional pretreatment system, can be used in industrial and mining areas, factories, and centralized water supply projects. The desalination rate can reach over 95%, fully meeting the conventional water needs of industrial production, domestic water supply, and boiler feedwater. This equipment features low energy consumption, simple operation and maintenance, and extremely high cost-effectiveness, making it suitable for large-scale continuous water supply scenarios. For the severely brackish water conditions in southern Xinjiang, the use of ordinary single-stage reverse osmosis equipment is strictly prohibited. A dual-stage reverse osmosis system with enhanced pretreatment is required. The pre-filter must be equipped with multi-media filtration, activated carbon filtration, precision filtration, and a fully automatic softening device to reduce water hardness, intercept sediment and colloids, and adsorb impurities and pollutants in advance, preventing high-pressure membrane scaling and clogging at the source. The core membrane element uses a highly fouling-resistant, wide-channel brackish water-specific membrane with a desalination rate of ≥99%, superior resistance to high osmotic pressure and fouling, and can stably treat high-salinity raw water from southern Xinjiang, ensuring long-term compliance with effluent quality standards. For high-purity water applications such as food processing and precision manufacturing, an EDI deep desalination system can be added to produce high-standard pure water.

In addition to the core process, the selection of large-scale pure water equipment in Xinjiang must also be adapted to the local climate and operating conditions. Xinjiang experiences large temperature differences between day and night, severe winters, and frequent sandstorms. Equipment must be made of corrosion-resistant, rust-resistant, and low-temperature-resistant materials for the casing and piping. Electrical systems must be dustproof, and antifreeze and heat tracing insulation devices should be installed to prevent equipment damage and downtime in winter. Large-scale water supply projects need sufficient treatment capacity to accommodate fluctuations in water quality and quantity during rainy and dry seasons. Intelligent online water quality monitoring systems should be implemented to monitor effluent TDS values in real time, enabling fully automated operation and intelligent flushing, eliminating the need for dedicated personnel and reducing long-term maintenance costs.

In short, there is no universal template for selecting large-scale pure water equipment in Xinjiang. The principle of "testing water quality first, then selecting the process, and adapting to operating conditions" must be followed. In northern Xinjiang, streamlined and efficient single-stage reverse osmosis equipment is preferred, while in the high-salt and brackish water areas of southern and eastern Xinjiang, customized configurations combining enhanced pretreatment and double-stage reverse osmosis are recommended. The equipment is designed to meet the water quality differences between northern and southern Xinjiang, ensuring long-term stable operation and water quality compliance while effectively reducing consumable consumption and maintenance costs. It is the optimal choice for large-scale industrial water supply and centralized water purification projects in villages and towns in Xinjiang.
